About Christmas Penguins Tutorial
Quick Summary & Skill Level: Crochet a 5 cm penguin body, starting with the head, with increases and immediate color changes within each row by holding two yarn strands. The body color is then joined and crocheted in the new color (e.g., red for the Santa version).
The wings are crocheted along with working advanced stitches (Half Double and Double Crochet) into the front loops of a round. After adding the optional belt color section, the feet need to be crocheted with the puff stitch.
Finally, safety eyes are placed and the piece is stuffed, then sewn to close, and finished with a needle. You will also embroider the belt. Learn a Santa hat with a separate tutorial.
Tutorial-Timing: 26 Minutes Only (learn how to crochet a basic chubby body and the popular crochet animal belly and head color-changes as used in the reindeer puppet.)
Quick Stitch GuidesΒ
The following are the crochet techniques that the tutor will use for crocheting all of these mini Christmas amigurumi:
Half Double Crochet (HDC): Used to create the initial height of the wings, between a single crochet and a double crochet. Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over again, and pull through all three loops on the hook.

Puff Stitch: Creates a rounded, textured look, often used for feet. Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop; repeat 3β4 times in the same stitch, yarn over, and pull through all loops on the hook.
Working in Front/Back Loops: Used for shaping details like wings. Insert the hook only into the front or back loop of each stitch instead of both loops.
