Free Crochet Pineapple Keychain & Bag Charm Pattern
Are you ready to crochet the summer’s most special fruit? You will definitely want it, as I am here with a free pattern for a cute, mini pineapple keychain. With this pattern, you can also learn how to work in rounds using the popcorn stitch.
As the pineapple body is crocheted, this stitch creates an authentic skin pattern of pineapple. The leaf pattern is also easy. This is made authentic by adding many and bending them a little. In this post, I will share both the UK and US patterns.

Crochet Pineapple Pattern (US Terminology)
Pineapple Body (Yellow)
- R1: 8 Puff stitches in MR. (To make a puff: ch 3, yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop to the height of the ch-3 repeat 6 times. Pull through all loops, ch 1 to close). Join with sl st to first puff. (8 puffs)
- R2–5: Ch 3. Work 1 Puff stitch in every space between the puffs of the previous round. Join with sl st, ch 1. (8 puffs per round)
- After R5: Fill the body with fiberfill.
- Closing Round: Ch 1. Sc in the spaces between puffs. (8 sc).
- Final Reduction: Skip every other stitch and sc around until the opening is small enough to close. Fasten off and weave in the end.
Crown Leaves (Green)
- Step 1: Attach green yarn to the top center of the pineapple.
- Step 2 (Leaf 1): Ch 7. Starting in 2nd ch from hook: 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. Sl st into the base on the pineapple body.
- Step 3 (Leaves 2–5): Repeat Step 2 four more times, working around the top center to create a circular crown of 5 leaves.
- Step 4 (Keychain Loop): Ch 5, attach to the opposite side of the crown, and secure the keychain ring through this loop.
Assembly & Tips
- Stitch Height: When making the puff stitches, ensure you pull the yarn up high to match the initial ch-3 height; otherwise, the pineapple will look flat rather than rounded.
- Color Variations: While yellow is traditional, you can use pink or red to create “fantasy” fruits or different varieties.
- Security: Use the tapestry needle to weave the yellow yarn tail deep into the stuffing to ensure the bottom doesn’t pop open over time.
- Firmness: Stuff the pineapple firmly so it holds its shape when the keychain is pulled.
