Quick Summary & Skill Level:

You will crochet five-layered pieces of a tiered tree by working in continuous rounds using the Double Crochet (DC) stitch. Shaping is achieved with Double Crochet Increases (Inc) in every round.

The defining feature of the tree is the decorative edge, or Scallop, created in a separate round by working a sequence of Single Crochet (SC), Double Crochet (DC), and Chain Stitches (CH), and critically, by working into the Back Loop Only of the previous round’s stitches.

Main Techniques

  1. Increase (Inc): Work two double crochet stitches into the same stitch.
  2. Slip Stitch (SL ST): Used to join the end of a round to the beginning stitch, closing the round.
  3. Back Loop Only: Insert the hook into only the loop farthest from the crafter during the edge round to create a ridge.

Few Tips Before Starting: You can easily make this is tiered tree plushie shorter or taller by adjusting the number of pieces. There are five color versions to choose from: if you don’t want the colorful tree, use solid green and brown. The addition of a small bell at the bottom is an optional decorative element.
