Assembly Details
- Joining the Centers: Hold the two dark brown circles back-to-back. Ensure the right sides are facing outward. You will crochet the yellow petals through the stitches of both circles simultaneously. This eliminates the need for stuffing and creates a flat, sturdy flower base.
- Petal Construction: As you work through both layers, ensure your hook catches the corresponding stitches on both the front and back circles. The “ch 1, sl st” picot at the top of each petal is crucial for achieving the “pointed” sunflower look requested in the tutorial.
- Leaf Attachment: Position the green leaf at the top of the sunflower, typically between two petals. Use a tapestry needle and the yarn tail from the leaf to sew the base of the leaf into the brown center or the base of a petal. Secure it tightly so it doesn’t flop.
- Keychain Ring: Once the leaf is attached, use the remaining yarn or a separate jump ring to attach the keychain hardware. It is best placed at the very top center of the flower, right next to the leaf attachment point for a balanced hang.
- Finishing: Use a tapestry needle to weave all remaining yarn tails into the brown center of the flower. Snip the excess yarn close to the fabric to hide the ends completely.
