I have already shared two tutorials for crocheting a chubby chick plushie. With this pattern, you can crochet a fuzzy yarn chick, wearing a chubby frog hat. It is mostly no-sew, but you will want to crochet the wings, feet, and beak separately. It is very well-designed and will make an irresistible

This crochet chick is so fuzzy and fun to hold, perfect for baby showers, spring, and fall. Today, I will share both the UK and the US patterns for crocheting this amigurumi chick.

Crochet Chick Pattern (US Terminology)

This pattern is for a Baby Chicken wearing a Frog Hat. The creator in the video uses fluffy/chenille yarn for the chick and cotton yarn for the hat details, but you can use any yarn of your choice.

Materials (US Terms)

  1. Yarn: Fluffy/textured yarn (Yellow for the chick, Green for the hat, Orange for the beak and feet)
  2. Crochet Hook: 3.5 mm (or 2.5 mm if using cotton yarn)
  3. Safety Eyes: 7 mm black beads or safety eyes
  4. Fiberfill Stuffing
  5. Yarn Needle
  6. Scissors
  7. Stitch Marker
  8. Hot Glue Gun (optional, for attaching eyes/hat)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  1. MR: Magic Ring
  2. ch: Chain
  3. sc: Single Crochet
  4. inc: Increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  5. dec: Decrease (2 stitches together)
  6. sl st: Slip Stitch

Body & Head (One Piece)

  1. R1: 8 sc in MR. (8)
  2. R2: 8 inc. (16)
  3. R3: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 8. (24)
  4. R4: 24 sc around. (24)
  5. R5: (2 sc, 1 inc) x 8. (32)
  6. R6–10: 32 sc around (5 rounds). (32)

  1. R11: (3 sc, 1 inc) x 8. (40)
  2. R12–14: 40 sc around (3 rounds). (40)
  3. R15: (4 sc, 1 inc) x 8. (48)
  4. R16: 48 sc around. (48)
  5. R17: (4 sc, 1 dec) x 8. (40)

  3. Stuff the body firmly.

  5. Finish: Fold flat and sc 5 across both sides to close. Leave a tail for sewing.

Beak & Feet (Make 3 Total)

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. Finish: sl st to first st and fasten off. (Use 2 for feet and 1 for the beak).

Frog Hat (Green)

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: 6 inc. (12)
  3. R3: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 6. (18)
  4. R4: (2 sc, 1 inc) x 6. (24)
  5. R5: (3 sc, 1 inc) x 6. (30)
  6. R6: 30 sc around. (30)
  7. Fasten off and leave a tail.

Frog Eyes (Make 2 – White)

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing to the top of the hat.

Assembly & Finishing

  1. Beak: Sew the orange beak circle to the face between rounds 9 and 10.
  2. Eyes: Place 7mm safety eyes on either side of the beak.
  3. Wings: Sew the wings to the sides of the body at the level of the eyes.
  4. Feet: Sew the remaining two orange circles to the bottom of the body.
  5. Hat: Sew the white eye circles to the top of the green hat. Add black pupils (beads or embroidery). Place the hat on the chick’s head.
