Crochet Pumpkin Stitch Coaster Tutorial
Skill Level: Intermediate – Advanced.
Why: Along with working in the rounds, changing the colors and more, you will need many new techniques and stitches. That is the shell stitch, puff stitch, pumpkin stitch, single crochet 5 together and more.
Supplies Needed
Following are the supplies, you need to gather for crocheting this fall pumpkin amigurumi:
- Cotton yarn 4ply or 5ply in orange and white
- 2.20 mm Crochet hook as used by the tutor
- Colors: Orange, beige and green.
- Sewing Needle
- Keyring
Advanced Stitch Guides
Puff Stitch: Yarn over. Insert your hook into the stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (make it a bit tall). Repeat this process into the same stitch 3 or 4 more times until you have many loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook. Chain 1 to lock the puff closed.
- Shell Stitch: Work 7 double crochet cluster in the same chain space separated by 3sc in space, 1sc, 3sc in space.
Single Crochet 5 Together (Sc5tog): Insert your hook into the first stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert your hook into the next stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Repeat this for the next three stitches until you have pulled up a loop in 5 stitches total (6 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. This decreases 5 stitches down to 1 stitch.
Quick Guides for Stitches
Ch (Chain): Make a slip knot on your hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the loop on your hook.
Slst (Slip a stitch): Insert your hook into the stitch. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch and through the loop on your hook at the same time.
Sc (Single Crochet): Insert your hook into the stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through both loops.
Middle
Since we have to crochet a circle, here is the pattern:
With the beige:
Round 1: Ch 2. Work 6 Sc into the the ring. Slst to the first Sc to join. (6 Sc)
Round 2: Ch 1. Work 2 Sc into each Sc around. Slst to the first Sc to join. (12 Sc)
Round 3: Ch 1. Work 1 Sc in the first stitch, then 2 Sc in the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Slst to the first Sc to join. (18 Sc)
Round 4: Ch 1. Work 1 Sc in each of the first 2 stitches, then 2 Sc in the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Slst to the first Sc to join. (24 Sc)
- Round 5: Ch 1. Repeat (4sc, ch 3, skip 2).
Pumpkin Stitch
Change the color to
- Round 6: Chain 3. (Make a puff stitch in the chain space and ch 1). Repeat this 4 more times.
- Chain 3 and single crochet in the next stitch.
- Repeat the pumpkin stitch all around.
