Crochet Ghost Holding a Sickle Amigurumi Pattern

Let’s crochet a mini Halloween ghost keychain. It features a cute, chubby white ghost with tiny arms, wearing a little witch hat and holding a miniature scythe.

It is a quick and easy craft, perfect for decorating your keys, hanging on a bag, or giving away as a spooky autumn gift.

Materials

  • Yarn: White (for the ghost), Black (for the hat), and Gray or Brown (for the scythe)

  • Crochet hook – two-sided 3.5mm crochet hook

  • Craft wire and pliers (for the scythe handle)

  • Tapestry needle

  • Scissors

  • Polyfill stuffing

  • Hot glue

  • Keychain ring

  • Black thread or safety eyes (for the face)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR: Magic Ring

  • ch: chain

  • sl st: slip stitch

  • sc: single crochet

  • hdc: half double crochet

  • dc: double crochet

  • inc: increase (2 stitches in the same stitch)

  • FLO: Front Loop Only

  • Bobble: 6-stitch cluster for the arms (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops. Repeat this 6 times in the exact same stitch until you have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Chain 1 tightly to lock the stitch.)

Full Crochet Pattern

Ghost Body (Use White Yarn)

  • Round 1: Make a MR, ch 2. Work 10 hdc into the MR. Join with a sl st to the first hdc, ch 2. (10 sts)

  • Round 2: 2 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st, ch 2. (20 sts)

  • Round 3: 1 hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st, ch 2. (30 sts)

  • Rounds 4–7: 1 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st, ch 2. (30 sts)

  • Round 8 (Adding Arms): 10 hdc. Make 1 Bobble stitch in the next st (push the puff outwards to form the arm). 6 hdc. Make 1 Bobble stitch in the next st. 12 hdc. Join with sl st, ch 2. (30 sts)

  • Round 9: 1 hdc in each st around. (Note: When you reach the bobble stitches, skip the little chain used to lock the bobble and just hdc into the front loop of the arm so your stitch count stays at 30). Join with sl st, ch 2. (30 sts)

  • Rounds 10–11: 1 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st. On Round 11, only ch 1 at the end. (30 sts)

  • Round 12 (Skirt Frill): sc in the first st. Skip 1 st, put 7 dc in the next st, skip 2 sts, sc in the next st. Repeat from * around to create the ruffles. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

  • Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Witch Hat (Use Black Yarn)

  • Round 1: Make a MR, ch 1, 6 sc into the MR. Join with sl st, ch 1. (6 sts)

  • Round 2: 1 sc, inc. Repeat 3 times. Join with sl st, ch 1. (9 sts)

  • Rounds 3–4: 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st, ch 1. (9 sts)

  • Round 5: 2 sc, inc. Repeat 3 times. Join with sl st, ch 1. (12 sts)

  • Rounds 6–7: 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st, ch 2. (12 sts)

  • Round 8 (Brim): Working in FLO (Front Loops Only), put 3 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st.

  • Fasten off and weave in the ends. Stuff the tip of the hat lightly with polyfill, then glue or sew it to the top of the ghost’s head.

Accessory

  • Handle: Cut a piece of craft wire, fold it in half, and pinch the folded end flat with pliers. Glue a piece of yarn to the flat tip and wrap it tightly down the wire until you reach the length you want for the handle. Secure the bottom with a tiny drop of hot glue.

  • Blade (Use Gray Yarn): Ch 6, then ch 1 to turn.

    • In the 2nd ch from the hook: sl st.

    • In the next ch: inc (2 sc in the same chain).

    • In the next 2 chs: 1 hdc in each.

    • In the last 2 chs: 1 dc in each.

  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew the blade onto the top of your wrapped wire handle.

Final Assembly Glue or sew the scythe to one of the ghost’s bobble arms. Use black yarn or thread to stitch a simple face onto the ghost. Finally, attach your keychain ring to the top of the black witch hat!
