This cute amigurumi project features an adorable Hello Kitty wearing a removable crab shell suit! Using basic crochet stitches like single crochet, increases, and decreases, you’ll craft a white inner head and a red outer crab body piece that fits perfectly over the top.

The project is finished off with tiny crab claws, crab eyes, a sweet pink bow, and embroidered details to bring your very own Kitty Crab to life. This makes an excellent keychain or bag charm!

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Cotton yarn in White (for Kitty’s head), Red (for the crab suit), and Pink (for the bow)

  • Crochet Hook: 2.0mm hook

  • Additional details: A small amount of black yarn/thread (for Kitty’s eyes and whiskers), and a bit of yellow yarn/thread (for Kitty’s nose)

  • Fiberfill stuffing

2. The Crab Suit (Use Red Yarn)

3. Large Crab Claws (Make 2 using Red Yarn)

  • You will make two separate small pieces and then join them together.

  • First Piece:

    • Round 2: 1 sc in each st around, sl st to join. (6 sts)

    • Fasten off and cut the yarn.

  • Second Piece:

    • Repeat Rounds 1 and 2, but do not cut the yarn.

4. Small Crab Legs (Make 4 using Red Yarn)

  • Round 1: Make 5 sc in a MR, sl st to join. (5 sts)

  • Rounds 2 – 3: 1 sc in each st around, sl st to join. (5 sts)

  • Finish: Fasten off. You do not need to stuff these.

5. Small Crab Eyes (Make 2 using Red Yarn)

  • Round 1: Make 5 sc in a MR, pull tight to close. (5 sts)

  • Finish: Fasten off.

6. Large Crab Eyes (Make 2 using Red Yarn)

  • Round 1: Make 8 sc in a MR, pull tight to close. (8 sts)

  • Finish: Fasten off.

7. Kitty’s Bow (Use Pink Yarn)

  • Step 1: ch 2.

  • Step 2: In the first ch, make 2 hdc.

  • Step 3: ch 2, and sl st back into the same first ch st.

  • Step 4: ch 2, make 2 hdc in the same st, and sl st into the same st once more.

  • Finish: Fasten off and cut the yarn. Wrap the tail around the center of the bow a few times to create the knot.

8. Assembly

  1. Using the hot glue gun, carefully attach the large crab claws to the front sides of the crab suit, and the 4 small crab legs to the sides/bottom.

  2. Glue the small crab eyes on top of the large crab eyes, and attach them to the top of the crab suit.

  3. Glue the pink bow onto Kitty’s head, right next to one of the crab eyes.

  4. Using black thread, embroider two oval eyes and three little whiskers on each side of Kitty’s face. Use yellow thread to embroider a small oval nose in the center.
