How to Crochet UNIQUE MINI Spider Plushie

This crochet project is an easy-to-follow tutorial for a tiny, cartoonish plush spider with big, expressive eyes! Measuring just about 5.5 centimeters, this mini amigurumi is worked from the bottom up.

By combining a flat grey base with a cute pink upper body, you will learn to crochet the 8 little legs seamlessly into the rounds and use puff stitches to form built-in white eyeballs. It’s a fun, fast piece that is perfectly sized to act as a backpack charm or a playful keychain.

Materials Needed:

    • Plush/chenille yarn (100 g / 120 m), in Base Color (such as Grey), Main Body Color (such as Pink), and a scrap of White.

    • 4.0 mm crochet hook.

    • Safety eyes or glue-on plastic pupils (8 mm).

    • Toy stuffing (Fiberfill).

    • Scissors and a yarn needle.

    • Optional keychain carabiner clip.

Abbreviations (US Terms):

    • MR: Magic Ring

    • sc: Single crochet

    • inc: Increase (2 sc in one stitch)

    • dec: Decrease (2 sc together)

    • ch: Chain

    • sl st: Slip stitch

    • puff-st: Puff stitch (specifically a 3-double crochet bobble/puff stitch worked with 3 unfinished double crochets in the same stitch, then pulled through with one common top loop)

    • [ ]: Total stitch count at the end of the round

Bottom & Legs (Starting with Base Color yarn):

    • Round 1: 6 sc in a MR [6]

    • Round 2: 6 inc around [12]

    • Round 3: (1 sc, inc) * 6 times [18]

    • Round 4 (Legs round): 2 sc. First Leg: ch 4, starting in the 2nd chain from hook, work 3 sl st back down the chain, then make a sl st into the original body stitch. 1 sc along the body. Second Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 1 sc along the body. Third Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 1 sc along the body. Fourth Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 7 sc along the body. Fifth Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 1 sc along the body. Sixth Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 1 sc along the body. Seventh Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 1 sc along the body. Eighth Leg: ch 4, 3 sl st back down, sl st into the original body stitch. 3 sc along the body.

    • Change Color: Do not complete the very last sc stitch of Round 4 entirely. Switch to your Main Body Color (Pink) on the final pull-through. Securely knot the two yarn ends together inside the piece.

Upper Body & Built-In Eyes:

    • Round 5 (Attaching the eyes): Crochet 7 sc along the body while pushing the legs forward to keep them outside. Stop on the 7th sc, completing it halfway, and switch to White yarn. Work a 3-dc puff-st with the white yarn to make the first eyeball, changing back to the Main Body Color (Pink) on the final loop pull-through. Crochet 1 sc halfway,

    • change back to White yarn, and make another 3-dc puff-st for the second eyeball. Change back to Main Body Color (Pink) yarn on the final loop and crochet 8 sc to complete the round [18]. Cut the white yarn and tie the raw ends together on the inside.

    • Round 6: 18 sc evenly around without any changes [18]

Closing the Toy:

    • Round 7: (1 sc, dec) * 6 times [12]

    • Stuffing: Lightly add fiberfill stuffing into the spider body. Make sure to flatten the bottom base out as you stuff so the spider can sit flat without bulging or rolling.

    • Round 8: 6 dec around consecutively [6]

    • Fasten off, leaving a short tail. Weave the yarn needle through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches, pull tightly to close the opening completely, and pull the leftover tail inside the spider body to hide it.

Finishing Touches:

    • Carefully glue or attach 8 mm black plastic pupils directly onto the centers of the white puff-stitch eyeballs to give the spider its silly look.

    • Secure a keychain loop or carabiner clip to the top of the body if you want to turn it into a cute charm bag accessory.
